The Connecticut Trolley Museum has a number of old historic trolley cars and other trolley exhibits.  The ride is a is a 20-30 minute round trip ride on a trolley.  The museum has different events that include Easter, Pumpkin Patch and Winterfest.

The Danbury Railroad Museum has a 10 acre railyard with exhibits covering the history of railroads in New England.  Outside there are 60 pieces of railroad equipment and rolling stock and 30-35 minute train rides giving a tour of the rail yard.  There are a few special event rides such as Pumpkin Patch trains, Storytime Express and Santa Trains.

A 12 mile train ride and a boat tour of the Connecticut river that takes 2 1/2 hours or a train only tour for 1 hour.  There are many specialty types or themed events including dinner trains.

The Railroad Museum of New England has a 20 mile Naugatuck River Scenic Train as well as many other themed excursions.  These include  many food trains such as an Ice Cream Train, BBQ & Bourbon, Chocolate Decadence, Tequila Train.  They also have Autumn Colors, Speeder rides and Santa Trains.  The museum exhibits include steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, passenger and freight cars as well as other types of vehicles used in in maintenance.

The Shoreline Trolley Museum maintains an indoor museum in the visitor center with educational displays, photographs, historical artifacts, and scale models.  The museum also displays almost 100 vintage transit vehicles.  They offer a short 1.5 mile trolley ride between East Haven and Brandford.

Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad

The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad has a 1 hour ride between Unity and Burnham ME.  There are also many different types of themed rides such as the Pizza and Woopie Pie train, Fall Foliage, Pumpkin Express, Halloween, and Santa

Boothbay Railway Village Museum

The Boothbay Railway Village has an assembled village of vintage buildings from all across Maine, an antique car museum, a model train exhibit and a train ride around the village pulled by a steam locomotive. 

Downeast Scenic Railroad

The Downeast Scenic Railroad appears to be affiliated with the Maine DOT.  Their website states it is a 90 minute 12 mile ride.  They also have themed events such as Touch A Train, Autumn Gold and Pumpkin trains. 

Maine  Narrow Gauge

Maine Narrow Gauge offers a 3 mile 40 minute narrated round trip ride around Casco Bay.  There are also themed events such as an Ice Cream Train, Pumpkin Train, Sunset Express, Polar Express, and Independence Limited.

WW&F Railway Museum

WW&F Railway Museum has a focus on narrow gauge with collection of restored locomotives and rolling stock as well as a working machine shop where the restoration work is done.  There are excursions on the Sheepscot Valley Steam Train and many special excursions or events such as A-No.1 Hobo Experience, The Lavender Pickin' Train to Sealyon Farm, Pumpkin Pickin' Train to Sealyon Farm as well as others.

Berkshire Scenic Railway - Hoosac Valley Train Ride

The Hoosac Valley Train Ride is part of the Berkshire Scenic Railway and is an all volunteer organization.  The Adams location has the Hoosac Valley Service train rides between Adams and North Adams  This is a 10 mile 1 hour ride that does not pass through the Hoosac Tunnel.  There are themed events such as the Ice Cream Train Rides and the Railyard Tour Train.  The Lenox Station Museum is a restored train station with exhibits of historic railroad equipment.  There is also a short Lenox Jitney train ride from one end of the grounds to the other.

Cape Cod Central Railroad

The Cape Cod Central Railroad offers couple of different rides.  One ride takes you down the Cape, and the other takes you from Buzzards Bay across the canal.  Both seem to be very scenic and both run a couple of hours.  There is also a Railfan day and Polar Express Train.  They also have a very extensive set of Dinner Trains.

Chatham Railroad Museum

The Chatham Railroad Museum is located in a restored 1887 restored depot and has railroad exhibits including the New York Central model locomotives from the Worlds Fair in 1939.  There is also a layout of the yard circa 1915 as well as models of the South and West Chatham stations.  There is a restored New York Central wooden caboose number 18452.

Chester Railway Station and Museum

The Chester Railway Station and Museum has a restored 1862 depot, steam engine, boxcars and a Baker's Chocolate tanker as well as artifacts from the history of railroads in Chester.  There is a Blue Caboose kitchen and you can rent the premises for events and even stay in the caboose overnight.

Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum

The Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum is located in the Buckland Freight Yard and has a visitors center as well as different rolling stock on display.  The museum also offers a 15 minute trolly ride and has many special events including  Velocipede (1 person hand powered car) Days,  Speeder (putt-putt car) Days and a Moonlight Magic Friday Night in November.

New Hampshire

Conway Scenic Railroad

Conway Scenic Railroad has a number of excursions through Mount Washington Valley and Crawford Notch.  Their Mountaineer excursion is approximately 4.5 hours long round trip and their Valley Train Excursion runs just under an hour.  There is also a Mystery Train that runs just under an hour.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway

The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a 3 hour round trip to the summit of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast at 6288 feet.  There is a 1 hour layover at the summit which is part of Mount Washington State Park which includes a visitor center and observation deck.

Winnepesaukee Scenic Railroad offers 3 different starting locations for its excursions.  Excursions starting in Meredith or Laconia are 2 or 2.5 hours, starting at Weirs Beach the ride is 1 or 1.5 hours.  The excursions take you through the New Hampshire Lakes region surrounding Lake Winnepesaukee.

Delaware River Railroad Excursions

Delaware River Railroad Excursions has a few themes for their excursions with a couple of different destinations.  There is a River Train, and a Winery Train.  Snyder's Station is the location of the Susquehanna Mining Company and the maze  which would be the destination for the Mine Train, Maze Train, Dinosaur Train, and Pumpkin Train.

Woodstown Central Railroad

The Woodstown Central Railroad has a couple of trips and 2 food trains.  The Mannington Limited is a17.5 mile trip lasting 65-75 minutes, And the Swedesboro Local is a 50 minute trip.  The food trains are The Continental which is a breakfast train serving baked goods and fruit, and The Charcuterie which serves meats, cheeses and fruit, both are listed as BYOB and last 75 minutes.

Adirondack Railroad

The Adirondack Railroad has different trips departing from each station.  Excursions last from 1 and a half hours to over 9 hours depending on which trip is purchased and all trips showcase the sights and beauty of the Adirondacks.  There are also themed trips such as the Beer and Wine, the Pumpkin Train, the Family Halloween Train and the Polar Express  

Catskill Mountain Railroad

Catskill Mountain Railroad has a Summertime ride that is approximately 90 minutes, and also has a number of themed rides such as the Ice Cream Express, Great Train Robbery, Catskill Fall Foliage, Pumpkin Express and others.  Most listed ride times of 90 minutes  except the Fall Foliage and Pumpkin Express which listed an hour and fifteen minutes.

Delaware and Ulster Railroad

The Delaware and Ulster Railroad is currently running a 45 minute scenic excursion in the Catskills.  The line has had a lot of recent work and has begun operating again beginning with Mother's Day 2025 for the first time since it shut down due to Covid in 2020.  Even with the excursions resuming, the work on the line continues.

New York and Lake Erie Railroad

Colebrookdale Railroad

Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway

Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway offers a 70 minute narrated excursion along the Lehigh river into Lehigh Gorge State Park.  They also offer Bike trips on select dates where riders get off the train in White Haven and cycle back to Jim Thorpe through the state park.  There is also a 45 minute Autumn Leaf Train.

Strasburg Railroad

The Strasburg Railroad offers a 45 minute 9 mile round trip to Paradise and back.  They offer many themed trips as well such as The Wild Bunch, Princess Day at the Strasburg Railroad, Christmas in July, Murder Mystery Train. There are dinner train called the Elegant Express and Dinner on the Rails by Cafe 1832 and others.  The Strasburg Railroad also has 2 webcams from The Virtual Railfan, 1 at Strasburg end and the other at the Paradise end.

Rhode Island

The Grand Bellevue Rail Dining Experience
