BNSF
Headquartered in Ft Worth TX, their website shows 32500 miles of rail network across 28 states and 3 Canadian provinces. They service over 40 ports and their fact sheet indicates they move enough grain to supply 740 million people a years' supply of bread, enough lumber to frame 300,000 houses and enough coal to power 24 million homes for a year.

BNSF has about 8000 locomotives, with 2000 being local, yard or switch locomotives.
CSX
Based in Jacksonville Fl, the CSX website states they have over 20,000 miles of rail network east of the Mississippi River and into the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario. They include over 70 ports along the Atlantic, Mississippi River, Gulf Coast, Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.

Their website also states they run an average of over 1800 trains per day and have a fleet of more than 3500 locomotives and more than 51,000 freight cars.



Union Pacific
With its headquarters in Omaha Nebraska the Union Pacific website claims there are over 32000 route miles across 23 states with 7 border crossings. Their site states 8.1 million annual carloads pulled by over 7100 locomotives and connects with Canada's rails system and all 6 major Mexico Gateways.

Union Pacific is also home of the largest steam locomotive built called the 4-8-8-4 Bigboy. This locomotive still makes trips across the western states.
